Windows 10 build 21313 is available through the Windows Insider program. One of the biggest changes is the demise of Microsoft Edge Legacy, with many bugs fixed.
This browser, known as the “Spartan” project, was originally introduced with Windows 10. In short, it was the default browser for the OS. With its mixed success, Microsoft decided to leave it in favor of a version based on the Chromium engine. This solution is used by its competitor Chrome from Google.
This new approach has made it possible to deploy on multiple platforms including Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Linux and MacOS.
The creation of Microsoft Windows 10 is a new step with the release of 21313
“With the release of Windows 10 preview build 21313, the Microsoft Edge legacy has been replaced with the new Microsoft Edge. This will now be the case for all future previews. With Microsoft Edge, you get top performance with greater privacy, more productivity […] If you want to try out the upcoming features then join the Microsoft Edge Insider program. Be pre-uploaded to the Canary, Dev, or Beta channel from the Microsoft Edge Insider website to see what’s new. “
Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge Legacy is the end
This new approach will also be adopted for the stable and consumer versions of Windows 10.. Redmond also announced that on Patch Tuesday in April 2021, Edge Legacy would be removed from all Windows 10 devices. Edge Chromium will become the only available version.
This work will be ensured by a specific update. This will remove the old version and install the new one. If Edge Chromium already exists then the update will only remove Edge Legacy.
It will be interesting to monitor the operation, hopefully Vishal will not take the opportunity to reset the settings related to the default applications….
