Windows 10 and KB 5000802, a bug causes blue screen of death

Patch Tuesday of March 2021 gave rise to new cumulative updates. Windows 10. It seems that these beautiful people are causing problems on some PCs. Many reports report BSOD after printing.

These updates provide several security improvements. One of them concerns a vulnerability (CVE-2021-1640) around print jobs presented to “file:” ports. The patch is available with the following KB

This is not the first time that Microsoft has tried to solve problems with the print port. Vishal in his release notes confirms that users may end up with printing errors after installing this patch. However, they are limited to queued print jobs. They cannot be completed and are asked to remove and then return to the queue.

However, several reports suggest that the situation is more problematic. Many returns on Reddit cause a bug, which causes a PC crash (blue screen of death or BSOD) after printing.

In some cases, one solution is to uninstall and reinstall the printer. Unfortunately, this trick does not work for everyone. Others managed to achieve this by updating the printer drivers. Again, this is not a universal solution.

Microsoft has not acknowledged this failure at the time of writing this article. As we announced, Patch Tuesday is a delicate moment that needs caution.
