United Kingdom, Ed Llewellyn is the new British ambassador to Italy

Llewellyn, born 23 September 1956, married with three children, is one of the most experienced diplomats in the Foreign Office. His last position, which has just ended, was in Paris as British ambassador to France, where he distinguished himself for his work in an era of various political conflicts between London and Paris.

Before that, from 1992 to 1997, Ambassador Llewellyn served as an advisor to the last British governor in Hong Kong, Lord Pattern, and then spent two years in the office of the High Representative in Sarajevo until 1999. Back then, Llewellyn was a member. Returned to the Bosnian capital as chief of staff to the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for External Relations in Brussels and then to Lord Ashdown, the High Representative and Head of the Political Bureau from 2002 to 2005.

But the new ambassador Llewellyn has also served in various positions in the United Kingdom: between 1988 and 1992 he worked in the Department of Conservative Research, serving for a year as private secretary. Margaret Thatcher, from 2005 to 2010 he was chief of staff to Tory opposition leader David Cameron and from 2010 to 2016 the prime minister’s chief of staff, meanwhile, Cameron in Downing Street.
