The donations went above $ 57,000 for Lenin Gutierrez, a barista who stood against a woman when she refused to wear a face mask at San Diego Starbucks, where she worked.
Califonia law requires anyone who is open to the public to wear a face covering even if they go to a restaurant or cafe.
But when Gutierrez refused to serve the customer Amber Lynn Gilles, she posted a photo on Facebook with a secret message, reports People.com.
“Meet Lenen [sic] “I am not wearing a mask from Starbucks who refused to serve me … I will wait for the cops next time and bring medical exemption.”
Facebook post backfire.
A GoFundMe “tip jar” appeared within hours and praised Gutierrez for standing on the ground.
“Raising money for Lenin for his honorable efforts to stand in honor of encountering a Karen in nature,” reads the Fund’s statement.
An avid dancer, Gutierrez worked as a dance instructor before performing a coronavirus beat.
“Now I can feed my passions better. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much for that. Now it’s really amazing to see that I can imagine adding more to the dance. Thank you very much for that. Said Gutierrez in a Facebook video.
