Rugby – EC – European Cup: Travel restrictions eased from the United Kingdom

The French government has decided to ease travel conditions for people coming from Britain. There is good news for the European Rugby Cup, which resumes later this week. As implied by the sports ministry last Thursday, France eased travel restrictions from the United Kingdom for people who have been vaccinated for COVID-19. There is no longer a need for compelling reasons to come to France or a period of isolation on arrival. Only a negative test will be requested within 24 hours upon departure from the UK.

The implementation of these new measures is set for Friday and it is clearly good news for European Rugby Cup matches scheduled to be held later this week after British clubs threatened not to attend. Restrictions were not relaxed. This weekend, sales are expected at the Champions Cup, in Münster Castres, Bath in La Rochelle, Scarlett in Bordeaux and Clermont. On paper, these matches should take place unless one or more teams are affected by COVID. In the Challenge, Biarritz will also have to get to Newcastle on Friday evening. The draw for the second day’s postponement is also in the direction France – United Kingdom, with travel restrictions also eased, which should allow French teams to travel this weekend, subject to a negative test before departure.
