Astronauts Delayed in Journey to International Space Station Due to Last-Minute Scrub
A scheduled launch of a Soyuz rocket carrying a crew of three people to the International Space Station was abruptly postponed due to unspecified issues, causing a delay in their journey. The crew members on board were NASA astronaut Tracy C. Dyson, Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, and spaceflight participant Marina Vasilevskaya of Belarus.
Although the crew was never in significant danger, their trip to the space station will now be delayed and may take a longer time to reach their destination. The earliest available launch window for the Soyuz vehicle is now set for Saturday, pending resolution of the cause of the scrub that occurred on Thursday.
If the Saturday launch occurs, a longer transit to the space station is expected, with docking not happening until Monday. In the meantime, a SpaceX Cargo Dragon spacecraft is set to launch as planned on Thursday afternoon from Florida. This cargo supply mission is not expected to be impacted by the delay of the Soyuz launch.
The Cargo Dragon spacecraft is scheduled to dock with the space station on Saturday morning, marking the first time a Dragon has launched from SpaceX’s oldest pad at Space Launch Complex-40 in Florida. Despite the setback, both crews are focused on their respective missions and ensuring a successful journey to the International Space Station.
