Nicola Sturgeon coronavirus update LIVE as two deaths recorded and cluster identified in Borders town

Two deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours from people with confirmed Covid-19. It’s the first time this has been reported since July 16.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the sad news as she gave her daily update at the Scottish Parliament, also responding to opposition MSPs at First Minister’s Questions.

She said 67 news cases of Covid were confirmed in the past day.

Meanwhile, seven people have tested positive forĀ  Covid-19 in the Borders in the latest cluster to hit Scotland. NHS Borders Health Protection team are dealing with an outbreak in Hawick.

The cases are linked to three businesses in the town, Morrisons, the Trinity Bar and Baguette ‘N’ Go.

Meanwhile, more school and nursery children have tested positive for the coronavirus across Scotland.

It comes as the Education Secretary John Swinney announced guidance for secondary school kids over the age of 12 to wear a face covering in a corridor, communal area or school bus from Monday, August 31.

Over the last week a number of pupils and teachers have at schools across the country have been forced to self-isolate for two weeks after testing positive for the deadly virus.

Aberdeen is back in line with the rest of Scotland today after a number of weeks in a local lockdown.

It came after a huge spike in cases linked to pubs in the Granite City.

For the first time in nearly three weeks people living in the city will be allowed to visit pubs, restaurants and cafes, so long as the establishments have been given environmental approval.
