Former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has finally found his desired NFL home, as he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in March 2024. According to sources close to Fields, the talented young quarterback had specifically requested Pittsburgh as his next destination and his camp even went as far as to ask that he not be traded to any other team.
The Steelers acquired Fields from the Bears in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick, which could potentially become a fourth-rounder if Fields plays in at least 51 percent of snaps in the upcoming season. Upon his arrival in Pittsburgh, Fields was informed by head coach Mike Tomlin that veteran quarterback Russell Wilson would be the team’s starter.
Wilson recently signed a one-year deal with the Steelers after a disappointing stint with the Denver Broncos, adding depth and experience to the quarterback position. The NFL free agency period saw several other notable quarterback moves, including Kirk Cousins signing with the Atlanta Falcons and Joe Flacco joining the Indianapolis Colts.
Looking ahead to the 2024 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots are projected to select quarterbacks following the Chicago Bears’ anticipated selection of USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. With the addition of Fields to their roster, the Steelers now have a talented and competitive quarterback room as they prepare for the upcoming season.
