BYU Secures Crucial Conference Win Against Baylor

BYU men’s basketball team secured a crucial Big 12 conference win against Baylor, holding off the Bears 78-71 in front of a sellout crowd at home. The Cougars made 14 3-pointers and received a standout performance from Jaxson Robinson, who contributed 16 points to help avenge their previous loss to Baylor.

With this win, BYU improved to 7-6 in league play and 19-7 overall, winning their fourth-straight home game. On the other hand, Baylor fell to 8-5 in conference play and 19-7 overall after the loss.

A key stat of the game was second-chance points, as BYU grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and converted them into 20 points. Aly Khalifa, BYU’s big man, finished with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, along with seven rebounds and seven assists.

BYU took the lead in the first half after an iffy flagrant foul call on Richie Saunders, going on an 8-0 run. The Cougars outscored Baylor 13-0 in second-chance points in the first half and shot 38% from beyond the arc.

Jalen Bridges led Baylor with 15 points, but the team struggled to find their rhythm, shooting just five of 20 from 3-point range. BYU’s impressive performance and ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities proved to be the difference in this crucial conference matchup.

The Cougars will look to carry this momentum into their upcoming games as they continue their push towards the top of the Big 12 standings.
