Athletics Owner Announces Temporary Move to Sacramento
In a surprising turn of events, John Fisher, the owner of the Oakland Athletics, announced plans for the team to temporarily move to Sacramento for the 2025-27 seasons. The A’s will be playing at Sutter Health Park, home of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, which Fisher described as the “most intimate” park in MLB.
Fisher expressed excitement for fans to see star players like Aaron Judge hitting home runs at their new temporary home. Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, who also owns the River Cats, mentioned other talented players like Shohei Ohtani and Zack Gelof when speaking about the Athletics coming to Sacramento.
The decision to move to Sacramento comes after MLB owners unanimously approved the A’s relocation to Las Vegas, despite efforts by Oakland officials to keep the team in the Bay Area. Fisher notified Oakland officials of the team’s intent to move to Sacramento on Thursday, according to ESPN.
If their new home in Las Vegas is still under construction, the A’s also have the option to play in Sacramento in 2028. Fisher, who has faced criticism from the fanbase, has not attended an A’s game since April 2013 and did not take questions during the press conference announcing the move.
It remains to be seen how Oakland fans will react to this news, but for now, the Athletics are preparing to make a temporary home in Sacramento and bring some exciting baseball action to the fans in Northern California. Stay tuned for more updates on the A’s relocation saga on Insider Wales Sport.
