The UK and Ireland football associations are confident they will be confirmed as joint hosts of Euro 2028 later this week, Sky Sports News has learned, with no rival bids to host the tournament.
The deadline for nations to file their ‘expressions of interest’ with UEFA is Wednesday.
UEFA will then announce the official bidders who will stand on 5 April – but if the UK and Ireland are the only options at the table, they will be confirmed as hosts two days later in a vote during the UEFA Exco meeting on 7 April.
Further deadlines for government aid and proof of funding are due later this year.
Italy had been offering the toughest competition as hosts, but it is now increasingly likely that they will bid for the next euro in 2032 instead.
A planned bid by Russia is a flop due to the ongoing atrocities in Ukraine and the country’s exile from world sport.
Turkey could still submit a bid before the Wednesday deadline, but UEFA officials are believed to have received no indication that a bid is likely.
