The E-Tow electric scooter always relies on a certain compactness. The design of the brand’s gear has not changed much and remains very basic. The Booster S + 2020 therefore takes normal form with a thin line and very few frills. A simplicity that makes it possible to focus on quality materials with a multifaceted presence of aluminum. The Booster S + exhibits a clear firmness and a good level of finish.
The height of the Booster S +’s handlebar can be adjusted in two levels. For example, convenient to adapt to different users of the home. This height adjustment leaves no game in the stem. At their highest, the handlebars will suit users of 1.80 meters or 1.85 meters. However, you have to deal with a deck whose dimensions are not the most generous that we have seen. It holds a 14.5 cm wide neck and neck with the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2, but lags behind the Pablo (15.5 cm) and the Z8 Pro (20 cm). It is particularly in length that the top lacks a bit to fully accommodate the two legs. However, this is due to the presence of a mechanical brake on the rear wheel, on which one leg must be kept ready to press. This rear brake has been attached to the mudguard which does a good job of protecting the lower part of the pants.
One point at which e-two electric scooters are not much developed is the comfort of the handlebars. That booster S + 2020 is only 38 cm wide. We are far from Pablo’s 43 cm or the Z8 Pro’s 59 cm. Such a narrow handlebar does not help to enjoy the best balance. The hands are still forced to stay close to each other, as the throttle and brake center are located on either side of the housing. The driving conditions are clearly affected and a lot of practice is required to find its bearings. The use of your thumb, especially to apply the brakes, does not allow you to maintain a correct grip on the handlebar.
The LCD screen offered by E-Two has not changed since 2018. It displays the information required by the user in color: instantaneous speed, battery level, distance traveled, headlight switching. It lacks a bit of brightness to be fully readable in strong ambient light. The displayed instantaneous speed is blocked at 25 km / h, even when the scooter exceeds this speed. The latter’s performance is too insidious to be taken seriously anyway. The booster S + displays 25 km / h, while it is traveling at 26 or 27 km / h with a full battery or at 19 km / h when almost empty.
The four buttons placed in front of the central box allow you to control the various functions of the Booster S +. The right hand side turns the scooter on and off. To its left, a button allows you to switch from a display of total mileage to a display of current travel. The third button from the right side controls the switching of the LED headlights back and forth. A device that illuminates the road properly when not in complete darkness. The farthest button on the left activates an audible warning device. It is powerful, but not necessarily well recognized by other road users. Above all, its condition makes it very complicated to use in emergencies. At this point, a good old mechanical bell works better.
Many of the constraints we have described so far relate to the true quality of the booster S + which is inherent in its ability to fold easily. A small lever at the base of the stem is easily operated with the tip of the foot so that the handlebar is folded onto the deck and mounted on the rear fender. A system that has gained in practicality since testing our Booster V. The handle can also be folded very easily to increase the width. Once fully folded, the E-Two Booster S + is particularly compact and will easily find space in the trunk of a car or closet.
The Booster S + is one of the lighter models of electric scooters weighing less than 11 kg. This weight makes it easy to transport to climb some floors with a scooter placed by the trunk. When folded, it is possible to roll the Booster S + on its front wheel. A good way to face the platform and metro corridor. The machine lends itself well to travel that includes a part by public transport.
Unlike many electric scooter models, the E-Twow Booster S + does not offer predetermined speeds. Here you just have to play with the accelerator to maintain a pace that suits the situation. This can be a problem on pavements where speed is limited to pedestrians when traffic is allowed. The smoothness of the accelerator and the great mobility of the Booster S + still make low-speed navigation quite possible.
The 575W motor of the E-Tow scooter allows it to have satisfactory performance overall. By default, you should start skating before activating the electric motor. The startup of Booster S + is not the brightest, but has the merit of not throwing away the novice user. The motor is placed in the front wheel, which can cause it to be a bit slippery when the road is wet. On the other hand, this position makes the passage of pavements easier than the rear engine.
The Booster S + engine allows it to reach its top speed of 25 km / h in 9 seconds. Relatively average time compared to what Pablo (7s) or Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2 (5s) offer. On the flat, the speed is maintained correctly when the battery is at more than 40% of its capacity. After this time, it tops out at 19–20 km / h, unlike what its screen indicates, which always displays 25 km / h. The machine slows down somewhat by crossing the hill which loses up to 10 km / h on steep slopes. At this point, the Pablo or Xiaomi Pro 2 is maintaining better speed.
The loss of torque and responsiveness due to battery run-off is more marked with the E-Two Booster S + than we saw when driving the Booster V or even the Pablo. We also have a moderate taste for the fact that the machine attempts to pass the bladder to the lantern by displaying the wrong instantaneous speed.
Despite its compact size, the Booster S + does not forget to be a comfortable electric scooter. It benefits from front and rear suspensions that are effective. Comfort on bumpy roads and bike paths is even more amazing as this scooter has two solid wheels. An option that avoids puncture, but which loses you a bit in handling.
We have always criticized electric scooters of the E-Tow brand for their sole magnetic braking. The trigger found under the left thumb activates an engine brake, certainly more powerful than the one we had before in the E-Two, but still insufficient to use alone. Using this unique magnetic brake, the Booster S + 2020 takes 9 meters to completely shut down. In an emergency, this brake would have to be combined with a mechanical solution in the rear as a good old man. The brake that rubs the rear wheel. By combining these two types of brakes, the stopping distance is reduced to 5 meters, which is much more convenient. However, you should practice this type of emergency braking a bit, as you will have to get yourself back into position well and control the rear wheel skidding.
