As we reported earlier this month, Apple has asked developers to prepare the DTK Mac Mini to return to business this year. Now Apple has confirmed that the developers have until March 31, 2021, to return the Developer Transition Kit (DTK) to Cupertino.
In a new email sent tonight to developers who were part of the Universal Email Quick Start program, Apple says that developers must return these Mac prototypes with Apple Silicon chips by the end of March.
Thank you again for participating in the Universal App Quick Start program and for being committed to creating a great app for Mac. We follow the shipping instructions to return the Developer Transition Kit (DTK) that was loaned to you as part of the program. Please review these details and return us all DTKs by 31 March 2021.
Apple has leased a custom Mac Mini with the A12Z Bionic chip so that developers can build and update apps compatible with the Apple Silicon platform, which is now officially available to all consumers with the new M1 Mac.
Developers had to pay $ 500 to get the Mac Mini DTK, and Apple only offered $ 200 credit to developers after initially requesting to return the machines. However, after numerous complaints on the web, the company decided to give a $ 500 credit for the return of these computers.
According to Apple, the $ 500 credit will be offered as a one-time promotional code that can be used to purchase a new Mac M1 or any other Apple product in the Apple online store, excluding gift cards or AppleCare + plans . Developers have until December 31, 2021 to use the $ 500 credit.
As we mentioned in our last email, upon confirmation of the return of DTK, you will receive a $ 500 credit as a one-time promotional code by the end of 2021. You can use ‘l’ for purchase. A new Mac M1 or other Apple products have been ordered through the Apple online store.
Promo codes have been provided for $ 500 or local currency based on January 2021 exchange rates and are valid until December 31, 2021. Apple and AppleCare + Gift Cards are excluded. The total purchase must be over $ 500 to be eligible for this rebate.
Developers who refuse to return machines to Apple will not receive credit and may even be banned from the Apple Developer Program. The company previously stated that DTK Mac Minis will no longer receive software updates, which may make them unusable after some time.
