Three Additional Measles Cases Confirmed at Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston
Broward County Public Schools officials have confirmed three additional measles cases at Manatee Bay Elementary School in Weston, bringing the total number of cases reported at the school to four. The district is working closely with the Florida Department of Health – Broward to safeguard the community.
Measles, caused by viruses, starts with symptoms such as high fever, cough, and inflammation around the eyes. A unique feature of measles is the red, dotted rash that starts on the face and spreads to the trunk and extremities.
There are currently 20 measles cases in 11 other states as of Thursday, raising concerns about lower rates of vaccinations and vaccine hesitancy among children. The FDA director has emphasized that vaccines save lives and prevent diseases like measles, influenza, and COVID-19.
The Florida Department of Health is closely monitoring the situation at Manatee Bay Elementary School. Measles was eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, but cases spiked in 2019 due to unvaccinated individuals.
Parents are urged to ensure their children are up to date on vaccinations to prevent the spread of measles. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story on Insider Wales Sport.
