London reacted after the announcement of its package and explained why the club would not go to France.
Change of speech in London. While the coach was able to travel to France, the Broncos ultimately refused to leave.
As a result, the Toulouse Olympics won the match by Forbit and the London club vindicated themselves. The Broncos believe it is not fair that they will have to walk unlike other clubs, which are semi-professional. Indeed, with Toulouse, London is the only team that is 100% professional and had to travel to France despite plans for quarantine and isolation upon returning to the United Kingdom. Thus, the club has made a comeback and hence it will not come.
President David Hughes commented:
The RFL decided that our club should travel to France based on their professionalism and that our contestants who are playing for the promotion of the Super League in 2022 do not have to travel due to their semi-professional status. We believe that this does not create a level playing field in our championship and it questions the integrity of the competition if we meet various criteria. In a meeting in early March we shared our feelings about what was asked of us, supported by other clubs in the competition, but the RFL always insisted that we travel.
We are fully aware that the quarantine rules the government has set up will have an impact on part-time players on their return as they have a job outside of rugby, but we believe this is not a deterrent to surrender in France If it is planned with your employers before the match in advance.
The club has issued a statement regarding the return of the scheduled Betfred Championship fixture with Toulouse.
