The UK government reports to the Ministry of Health that the UK government will provide its citizens with a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to travel to the EU under the Brexit deal.

The new card will replace a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) after their expiration date.

“According to the new agreement between the UK and the European Union, the rights of UK residents for medical and emergency care will be protected when they travel to the European Union. This includes treatment, which is medically necessary. Existing Or for chronic diseases, the Ministry of Health announced.

At the moment the British can use a valid EHIC card, but once they expire they are likely to exchange for GHIC.

At the same time, the cards of citizens of European Union countries remain valid in Great Britain, the ministry emphasized.

On 31 December 2020, the United Kingdom left the European Union for good. The parties have reached agreement on the terms of their future relationship, including a comprehensive free trade agreement and various other agreements on other issues. The document entered into force on 24 December.
