Bears reportedly trade Justin Fields to Steelers for conditional fourth-round pick

Justin Fields has been traded from the Chicago Bears to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a deal that could potentially bolster the Steelers’ quarterback depth for the upcoming season. The trade, which involved a 2025 sixth-round pick that could upgrade to a fourth-round pick based on playtime, marks the end of Fields’ tenure in Chicago.

Rumors of Fields’ departure from the Bears began swirling during the 2023 season, leading to the team’s decision to start over at the quarterback position. Fields will now join the Steelers as the backup to newly acquired Russell Wilson, who recently signed with the team. In another move, former Steelers starter Kenny Pickett has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles.

With Fields on board, the Steelers now have financial flexibility to add to their roster, as Fields is in the final year of his rookie contract with a manageable cap hit of $3.2 million. Despite his 10-28 record as the Bears’ starting quarterback, Fields has shown flashes of potential, setting career highs in completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdown passes last season.

Fields had a successful college career at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances and delivering a memorable performance in the Sugar Bowl. Now, in Pittsburgh, Fields will have the opportunity to tap into his potential and work alongside established veteran Wilson in a revamped quarterback room for the Steelers.

The Bears, on the other hand, are expected to select former USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick as they look to build around a solid supporting cast for their new era at quarterback. Stay tuned for more updates as the NFL offseason continues to unfold on Insider Wales Sport.
