An excluded player may be substituted

For the Rainbow Cup, a number of new rules will be put in place to bring teams from the United Kingdom, Italy and South Africa together. Important ? Substitution of an excluded player after 20 minutes! Dismissal of ‘Captain’s Challenge’ and goal line has also been started.

Many foreign media relayed the information. We thought it would be interesting to do so. Starting on 24 April, the Rainbow Cup brings together a total of 16 franchises: 4 Irish, 4 Welsh, 2 Scottish, 2 Italian and 4 South African. The competition will also be held with new rules validated by World Rugby.

The first rule concerns the replacement of a player sent on a red card (or two yellow cards) after 20 minutes. Therefore the team receiving the exclusion will be penalized for 20 minutes before being able to bring in another player.

Another novelty: the introduction of a “captain challenge”, allowing each team captain to use video on a stage he or she considers controversial. Just like what is done in tennis, one challenge is given per match, but it will not be used judiciously.

Finally, the third new rule tested is rejected from its in-goal line when a player on the defense flats to his in-goal or if players from the attacking team cross the in-goal line. .
