Liverpool asked Lovren or Sakho to re-sign

Liverpool legend Steve Nicole has suggested that the Reds should re-sign Dejan Lovren or Mamdo Sakho as their defensive crisis worsens.

Emergency replacement Fabinho suffered a hamstring injury last night as Virgil Van Dijk left the season to bid farewell to Dutchman and Joel Matip.

The only senior center-back available with Joe Gomez, Nicole had a tongue-in-cheek solution when talking to Metro quoted ESPN.

“I think we should try [Dejan] Lovren is back with a loan, it will probably solve the problem, [Mamadou] Sakho is also not getting a game for the Palace.

“We’re basically with Rice Williams who’s not even the center back. It’s just left behind the wall time.

“Defensively you don’t take any chances, clear your lines, keep things simple and try and keep a good shape.

“Joe Gomez has to understand because he’s the only recognized center-back really left. I don’t think Matip could fit in again at least this time next year, because he’s never.

“Joe Gomez needs to grow very fast in the next few weeks.”

I wonder where he thinks Rice Williams plays …

Or, as my colleague Paul Garst had just advised me, he confused her with Nakho.
