There may be times when you have to pop your sound-canceling headphones on the bus or train. But soon you may be able to create the car experience.

Well, if you shop for a Jaguar F-Pace or a Range Rover Whaler, anyway. They are both acquiring sound-canceling technology to make driving more peaceful and reduce driver fatigue.

We’re not smart enough to know what’s going on, so allow yourself to be handed over to the Jaguar Land Rover’s blob: Calculates sound waves in reverse phase to remove.

“By observing in real-time, unexpected sounds can be isolated and removed from holes or rough surfaces.”

In addition to sensors to pick up sound, the car can also know how many people are inside (and where they are sitting), so that these opposing sound waves can be applied most effectively. The JLR promises ‘unwanted noise horns’ – flying through the hole – and a reduction of up to 10 decibels to reduce overall from 3 to 4 decibels. The technology was initially launched in plug-in hybrid versions of F-Pace and Velar, but it looks like it will soon add other JLR products, including the new Jaguar XF.

Dr. Steve Ily is the JLR’s chief medical officer – naturally – and he said it. “In a post-Carnavirus world, where a‘ new generic ’is emerging, we expect private transport to change customer expectations. Additional focus will be placed on safe, clean movement where personal space, wellness and hygiene carry a premium.
