India-born researcher, Aroh Barjatya, recently made headlines as he led NASA’s mission launching sounding rockets during a total solar eclipse. The US space agency launched three sounding rockets on April 8 to study Earth’s upper atmosphere during the rare celestial event.

Barjatya, a professor of engineering physics, directs the Space and Atmospheric Instrumentation Lab at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida. Born to chemical engineer Ashok Kumar Barjatya and Rajeshwari, Aroh attended schools across India before earning a degree in electronics engineering from the Walchand Institute of Technology in Solapur.

In pursuit of his passion for space research, Barjatya moved to the US in 2021 for a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Utah State University, followed by a PhD in spacecraft instrumentation. His ultimate goal is to advance the state of space research and education, as well as inspire the next generation of space engineers and scientists.
