Federal Judge Renato Borelli said on Monday that Bolsonaro should wear a mask while in public in Brasilia. The judge’s order said that failure to do so could potentially result in a fine of about $ 386 per day.
The decision extends to all government employees in the Federal District, where the capital Brasilia is located.
Reached for comments on Tuesday, Bolsonaro’s office referred CNN to the Attorney General’s Office, which said his office “has been reviewing all the appropriate measures to reverse injunction.”
However, Bolsonaro has been open to the public at various events since then, without wearing masks, including rallies with supporters.
So far, more than 1.1 million cases and more than 51,000 deaths have been confirmed by Brazilian health officials, and the crisis shows no signs of reduction.
