This is why it is important to estimate this data. A new meta-analysis has just revealed the proportion of asymptomatic cases. 40% of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic
Posted in jama network As of December 14, 2021, the results of a new meta-analysis conducted by the Beijing School of Public Health to take stock of cases of COVID-19 came in. For this, they included true asymptomatic patients and patients in the pre-symptomatic stage, that is, those without symptoms, but those who developed later. During the study, two large groups were used to calculate the percentage of asymptomatic cases: one with people who had been tested and the other with people with a confirmed infection.
With regard to the first group, taking into account 94 studies for 29,776,306 million individuals, including 11,516 asymptomatic, this made it possible to establish the percentage of asymptomatic people among the population undergoing screening at 0.25%. For analysis of confirmed cases of COVID-19, it was carried out on 77 studies for 19,884 cases of Covid-19, including 11,069 asymptomatic forms. Overall, the study thus makes it possible to establish that the percentage of the cumulative asymptomatic form in confirmed COVID-19 cases is 40.5%.
Note, the percentage changes depending on the sub-population studied. Indeed, for those over 60, 3.69% were asymptomatic, compared to 50.21% for those under 20.
