Roger Federer made a long-awaited comeback from knee surgery in early March 2021. However, his return was cut short after ATP Doha were sent to the quarter-finals. Taking another tour break after that, Federer recently announced that he would play the clay court event Geneva ATP in his home country, Switzerland. The event will take place from 17 to 22 May.

After announcing his intention to play during the current clay season, Federer highlighted two clay tournaments for his clay season. One was the French Open and the other was the Madrid Open. But Federer changed his schedule as the French Open was postponed and so he decided to play in Geneva for the first time.
