SpaceX, Elon Musk’s space exploration company, announced on Thursday that it will team with Google to provide high-speed Internet and remote computing services to its customers, businesses and organizations.

Under the terms of the agreement, the ground stations of its Starlink satellites will be integrated into Google’s data centers to provide access to the cloud (remote computing) and the Internet.

SpaceX is in the process of launching its satellite Internet service that allows high-speed connections without having to go through terrestrial infrastructure.

“Combining low latency with Google’s infrastructure and resources will give organizations around the world a safer and faster connection than they expected,” said Gwyn Shotwell, president and chief executive officer of SpaceX’s operations.

“We are proud to work with Google to provide this access to businesses, public sector organizations and many other groups around the world,” he said.

Urs Holzle, vice president of infrastructure at Google Cloud, said the partnership will ensure that networks “get smooth, secure and fast access to the applications and services they need to sustain their teams”.

SpaceX and Google expect the new offering to be available in the second half of 2021.

Elon Musk’s company through its network of more than 1,500 Starlink satellites is awaiting approval from authorities for high-speed Internet service for businesses and individuals.
