Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art: A new version for the full-frame hybrid Sony or Panasonic

2

Sigma presents a new version of its 35mm f / 1.4 aperture, 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art. The fixed focal length will be available in the E mount for Sony’s hybrids, but also in the L mount, specifically for Panasonic cameras.

Sigma renovates one of the most popular fixed focal lengths among photographers, the 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art. With a new optical construction, it is still compatible with Sony E-mount hybrids, but also with L-mounts used by Panasonic, Leica, and of course Sigma.

A New Optical Fabrication

While testing the previous model, the 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, we praised the good build quality and good optical performance. Since then, the Japanese manufacturer has not ceased to develop quality optical fleets. Recently, there has been a spurt in the number of references to the Sony Hybrid or L-mount devices segment.

The new 35mm F1DG DN Art is therefore a new benchmark, whose optical construction has been revised. Divided into 11 groups, no fewer than 15 lenses are used, two more than the previous model. On the other hand, the number of blades dedicated to the diaphragm increases and passes through 11. One of the consequences will be the modification of the wiring effect that can be achieved by closing the opening.

A dissecting diaphragm ring

But these are not the only changes. Sigma has chosen a 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art with a distance scale. Some people may spoil it as it may be practical to concentrate in street photography. Instead, a diaphragm control ring is integrated, which we find more useful for the largest number. The stroke is displaced for smooth rotation rather than jagged.

Another feature that extends over the brand’s lens includes a button to lock focus. It can also be configured to assign another function such as locking focus or changing autofocus mode. The parameters are then dependent on the box used. In addition, a switch to switch to manual focus has not been forgotten, while the minimum focus distance is always 30 cm.

High end finish

In terms of dimensions, the new 35mm F1.4 DG DN Art has a length of about 1.5 cm. On the L-mount version – the diameter and weight are greatly reduced – but it remains roughly the same. For mounting a filter the thread remains unchanged at 67 mm. Finally, the 35mm will be dust and moisture resistant.

Pricing and availability

Sigma plans to release 35mm F1.4 DG DN art by the end of May 2021. The Sony E-mount version and L-mount version will retail for € 849 including a lens hood.
