A young Briton is traumatized while swimming with his friends at a popular beauty spot in Australia.

Charlie Williams, 24, was from Oxfordshire but lived in Queensland on a work visa.

The incident occurred on Saturday when Mr Williams along with a group of friends visited the Behna Gorge Swimming Hole south of Cairns.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:10 pm and Britton was unconscious when he was pulled out of the water.

Police said paramedics attempted to revive him, but Mr Williams was pronounced dead.

His death was not considered suspicious and Australian authorities are contacting the British consulate after the incident.

The young Briton, described as a young man, loved sports and played rugby in Britain.

His former rugby teammates paid tribute to him, with Bicester Rugby Union Football Club posting photos of him and two other players on Facebook.

The message reads: “It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that yesterday afternoon Charlie Williams, who was seen in his bicester kit standing between George and Cam, was killed in a tragic throat accident. Beena, From Cairns, Queensland.

“Charlie played his senior rugby as a junior at both Bicester and at Banbury RUFC and Chinnor RFC.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends at this time. “

The Oxfordshire Rugby Football Union wrote: “Our hearts are with the family and friends of the Bicester RUFC and Charlie Williams, who died in a tragic accident in Behna George, Cairns, Queensland. “

TRAGIC ACCIDENT

According to the Australian newspaper Mail, three people died in Behana George in just 24 hours over the weekend.

Located just 30 minutes from Cairns, the beauty spot has swimming holes, breathtaking views, and waterfalls that flow into a deep granite gorge.

It is a popular destination for tourists and locals who love nature.

In November 2019, firefighter Brent Jones died after slipping from Behna’s gorge and falling into the water.

Emergency services got him out of the water, but unfortunately he could not be revived.

Mr. Jones is described as a “courageous, energetic and positive person who people tended to”.
