Botik van de Zandskullup has a great debut in an ATP tournament. The 25-year-old tennis player qualified for the third round of the Great Ocean Road Open on Wednesday. Robin Hasey was ousted in Melbourne.
Van de Zandskulp made it to the second round of the tournament preparing for the Australian Open with Kamil Mazcrzak: 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.
For the Dutchman, this was already his fifth win in a row in 2021. He recorded three wins in the qualifying tournament for the Australian Open and won his first match at the ATP level against Tristan Schoolket in Melbourne on Tuesday.
He is number 844 in the Australian world. Along with Mazkrzak (ATP-109), van de Zandskulp (ATP-159) faced a strong opponent on Wednesday. Partly due to good service – he got only three break points in the entire match – he was too strong for Poole after just under two hours.
Haase lost Cuevas
Haas stranded in the second round. The global number 198 Uruguay lost in two sets in Pablo Cuevas (ATP-70): 7-5 and 6-3.
On Tuesday, the Duchess won 6-4 and 6-3 in two sets against Belgium’s Kimar Kopjans in the first round.
Hasey falls into qualification for the Australian Open, which begins next week. He can still participate in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year if a person unsubscribes. Van de Zandspull will make his debut at the Grand Slam.
