LONDON (Reuters) – Britain on Saturday urged Russia to honor international human rights commitments, as more than 1,600 people were arrested across the country at the border of protests demanding the release of anti-Alexey Navalny Were staying.
The British State Department said, “We are very concerned about detaining peaceful protesters and closely monitoring the situation.”
“We urge the Russian government to respect and abide by international human rights commitments and release civilians arrested during peaceful protests.”
According to the surveillance group OVD-Info, Russian law enforcement arrested 1,614 people around noon Saturday.
